Arlene Raven

Arlene Raven (born Arlene Rubin) left Baltimore for a Los Angeles scene that needed historians as much as it needed studios. She helped found Womanhouse-era organizations and the Women’s Building’s intellectual life.

Her essays and curating gave feminist art a memory. The field still walks around in rooms she helped open.
