Story
Stephen Samuel Wise built pulpits that faced the street. From New York he preached a Judaism that argued for labor rights, civil rights, and a national home for Jews after catastrophe.
He founded institutions, advised presidents, and kept a stubborn faith that a rabbi’s job includes the news. The voice was oratorical; the work was organizational.
