Story

Robert Wells and Mel Tormé wrote The Christmas Song in 1945, a lyric born of heat and a wish for winter. Nat King Cole’s recording made it a national heirloom.

Tormé was already a singer of rare polish; Wells was the partner who could turn weather into a verse. Together they added a Jewish-penned classic to the American holiday songbook.
