Barry Levinson (born April 6, 1942) is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter renowned for his versatile work across comedy, drama, and biographical genres, often featuring ensemble casts and explorations of American life., the salesman rivalry Tin Men (1987), and the immigrant family saga Avalon (1990), collectively forming his "Baltimore trilogy.", starring Robin Williams, and especially Rain Man (1988), which won four Academy Awards, including Best Director for Levinson and Best Picture., nominated for ten Oscars, the political satire Wag the Dog (1997), and the prison drama Sleepers (1996).( Levinson also contributed to television, producing and directing episodes of series like Homicide: Life on the Street, and has continued working in film production into recent years.(

Levinson's other best-known works are Diner (1982), The Natural (1984), Good Morning, Vietnam (1987), Bugsy (1991), and Wag the Dog (1997).

In 2021, he co-executive produced the Hulu miniseries Dopesick and directed the first two episodes.
